Te Rūnanga O Ngā Maata Waka upholds a vision to support the dreams and aspirations of all people and to strive towards independence with integrity – and this is ‘tino rangatiratanga’.
Te Rūnanga O Ngā Maata Waka is the urban authority for Te Waipounamu. Based at Ngā Hau E Wha National Marae situated in the eastern suburbs of Christchurch, Ngā Maata Waaka is an approved community services provider of Child Youth and Family to provide social work support, as well as a registered and accredited provider by NZQA as a Private Training Establishment pursuant to the Education Act 1989.
Ngā Maata Waka currently delivers a range of services in health, education, justice, social services, youth services, creative arts, housing, business development, community development, cultural identity and competence and Marae etiquette, practice and customs.
As a result of determination and perseverance which has stood the test of time, Ngā Maata Waka has developed a number of important basic social and cultural tools. These have assisted in the successful provision of services in the community.
