Te Runanga O Kirikiriroa continues the legacy laid down by their tupuna, conveyed in the statement united for mutual prosperity.
Te Rūnanga O Kirikiriroa was established as a Charitable Trust and the Urban Māori Authority for Hamilton in 1987 under the guidance of the late Maori Queen Dame Te Atairangikaahu and the former Mayor of Hamilton City (Kirikiriroa), Sir Ross Jansen. The Constitution and Trust Deed were accepted in May 1988.
The Rūnanga is mandated to focus on issues relating to Article III of the Treaty of Waitangi and was developed to meet the multi-faceted needs of Maata Waka within Kirikiriroa.

Currently, the Rūnanga employs over one hundred staff who work in health, mental health, youth, housing, whānau strengthening, budgeting, well-health, residential and community collaboration. Their relationships with Government agencies has been strong for more than 25 years.
